Many people think that sexual harassment only happens in Hollywood and other industries like fashion, but this is not true. Sexual harassment can happen anywhere and to anyone. It’s a serious issue that needs to be addressed before it becomes even more pervasive. The Wall Street Journal has reported on the problem of sexual harassment which we will discuss.
The New York Times also has a story about the problem of sexual harassment on Wall Street, as well as in other industries like entertainment and politics. They went into detail on one woman’s experience with sexual harassment at her workplace by describing how she was subjected to unwanted touching and lewd comments from another employee who had power over her position within the company. The plaintiff claimed that she endured “unwelcome and inappropriate sexual conduct” from her supervisor in 2010.
“At work, he would talk about the women who played in porn films and how often they engaged in anal sex. He joked that female employees should wear short skirts to entice male customers into buying stocks.”
The case on Hanna bouveng where she filed an $850 million lawsuit against her former employer, Citi Habitats. She alleged said that the company’s Chief Operating Officer “forcibly kissed and groped” her at an off-site work event in July 2013 after inviting her to join him for drinks earlier in the evening at a popular New York City restaurant.
Citi has denied any wrongdoing and claims that Mr. Lavine was never alone with Ms. Bouveng or touched her inappropriately.
In the year 2011, Julie Miller filed a lawsuit against Morgan Stanley, alleging that she was fired from her job after complaining about being sexually harassed by one of the firm’s managing directors. This included incidents in which comments were made to Ms. Miller about using sex toys, and he would send text messages with photos of his genitals.
“He would send text messages asking if she was thinking about him. He sent her a photo of his penis as well as photos that he had taken of himself licking phallic-shaped lollipops.”
In 2013, another lawsuit was filed against Morgan Stanley in which a woman claimed that she was subjected to sexual harassment by two male employees who made inappropriate comments and sent her sexually explicit photos.
In the year 2010, a lawsuit was filed against Goldman Sachs in which a woman claimed that she was subjected to sexual harassment by the firm’s co-head of metals trading. She alleged that he touched her inappropriately and made comments about masturbating in front of her during business trips on his private plane between New York and Chicago.
In the year 2015, another lawsuit was filed against Goldman Sachs in which they were accused of tolerating an environment with widespread sexual misconduct toward female employees. This included claims that they were sexually assaulted and raped by male co-workers. Two male employees who made inappropriate comments and sent her sexually explicit photos on multiple occasions over several months.
Sexual harassment is not just limited to one or two industries; it can happen anywhere and to anyone. Fortunately, there are a number of things you can do if you’ve been sexually harassed at the office. Reporting the incident is always an option, as well as consulting with human resources or your manager about what happened. You may also be able to file a complaint against your harasser, depending on how much time has passed since the incident. Additionally, you can consider filing a lawsuit against your employer if they failed to take any action after the sexual harassment occurred.
